Every Friday we select the best new tracks and videos from all around Scandinavia and present our editorial picks in the New Music Weekly series. This week we are featuring new Nordic releases from Örvar Smárason, Vera, Fred Nicolas, RAINDEAR, Jenny Wilson & Halie.
Örvar Smárason - Photoelectric
Örvar Smárason - whom you might know from his bands múm and FM Belfast - is going solo! He announced the release of his debut album ‘Light Is Liquid,’ which will drop in May via Morr Music. The first single off this record, ‘Photoelectric’ is a beautiful piece of dreamy electronica that makes us hungry to hear more!
Vera - Diamonds
Sade vibes are taking over these days! Not only did Sade herself drop a new song recently, but also Danish singer and producer Vera is projecting Sade-esque goodness in the new single ‘Diamonds’. Vera’s velvety warm vocals, dope beats, and groovy sax that drives the track make ‘Diamonds’ quite irresistible.
Fred Nicolas - Lennon Loved Yoko
We gotta admit: Fred Nicolas is one of the hottest Swedish newcomers these days. While we’re impatiently waiting for his debut EP, he teases us with his second single ‘Lennon Loved Yoko.’ This track is more on the lyrical side, dealing with the scariness, awkwardness and vulnerability that succumb us when falling in love.
RAINDEAR - Sky
Electronic pop-psychedelia, anyone? Gorgeous RAINDEAR from Sweden brings it on in her buzzing, glittering, futuristic new single ‘Sky’. Complex electronic production and strong vocals - check out this piece of power pop below:
Jenny Wilson - Lo’Hi’
After her last album ‘Demand The Impossible!’ five years ago and collaborations with The Knife and Robyn, Sweden’s Jenny Wilson is back with a new longplayer: ‘Exorcism’ (her fifth album!) will be released on April 20 via Gold Medal Recordings. Last Friday she released her new single ‘Lo’Hi’, the latest track from the upcoming new LP.
Halie - Youth
17 year old Halie from Norway made her debut at the Vil Vil Vest showcase in 2017 with only one released track on Soundcloud. After receiving a lot of praise for her live performance in Bergen she released her debut single Echo in November last year via French tastemaker label Kitsuné. Now the Norwegian newcomer released her second single: ‚Youth‘.
