Every Friday we select the best new tracks and videos from all around Scandinavia and present our editorial picks in the New Music Weekly series. This week’s colourful selection features Skott, Great News, Frida Sundemo, Blaue Blume, Idk Ariel, Cornelia Jakobs, Big Fox, & ShitKid.
Skott - Stay Off My Mind
This song is both, title track and opener of Swedish singer/songwriter Skott‘s new EP. A shuffled beat and jumping bass are combined with Skott’s crystal clear vocals. With a transverse flute, a clear piano and light-hearted backings, ‘Stay Off My Mind’, there’s quite a cheerful mood coming up.
Great News - Told
Norwegian trio Great News describe their own sound as ‘daze pop’ - very fitting. ‘Told’ is the third single of their forthcoming debut LP ‘Wonderfault’. With catchy beats and a sing-along backup choir Great News say hi to the 80s and 90s. Today they celebrate their new release with a set at Eurosonic Noorderslag in the Netherlands.
Frida Sundemo - Gold - Pure Version
In October 2017, Frida Sundemo from Sweden shared her LP ‘Flashbacks & Futures’. Three songs of that LP were now remade -purified you could say- and shared in a new EP. The pure version of ‘Gold’ almost sounds like a film score. And Sundemo’s vocals perfectly fits in with this garment of reticent piano and epic strings.
Blaue Blume - Ebony
After sharing their new ‘Sobs’ EP, Blaue Blume from Denmark have recently been featured in our New Music Weekly section. As a matter of fact, this exact song was listed in the 2nd edition. Still, we just have to list it again. Why? Well, the copenhageners just shared a beautiful video that cannot be missed.
Idk Ariel - Shining
Have some electronic R&B from Norway: Idk Ariel is the new project of Petter Ariel Skog, a former member of the band Marble Pools. In his home country, he has already gathered medial support. Today, melodious ‘Shining’ comes out.
Cornelia Jakobs - Late Night Stories
Oh this raspy voice! Cornelia Jakobs sings this emotional soft rock ballad and makes us believe every word. It’s the Swedish artist’s solo debut after she has been part of Love Generation and Stockholm Syndrome.
Big Fox - The Fight
Swedish songstress Charlotta Perers aka Big Fox finally returns with new material after an almost five-year hiatus. ‘The Fight’ is the first single off her upcoming new album, to be released this spring. It’s a beautiful lullaby-like song that definitely keeps us excited to hear what the rest of the new album has in store!
ShitKid - This Is It EP
What, ShitKid has a new EP out?! Yep, Swedish artist Åsa Söderqvist drops ‘This Is It’ today, a follow-up to her acclaimed debut LP ‘Fish’. Lo-fi, bad-ass, tomboy-esque - ShitKid remains true to her signature style, the one we all fell for to begin with. Check out this video for one the tracks off the EP called ‘Yooouuu’:
