Every Friday we select the best new tracks and videos from all around Scandinavia and present our editorial picks in the New Music Weekly series. This week’s selection is full of high-calibre artists and two artsy videos. Featured today: Club 8, Adée, Jacob Bellens, Lights & Motion, BRÍET, MATTIS, Patrick Dorgan & RABBII.
Club 8 - Swimming With The Tide
‘Swimming With The Tide’ is the opener of Club 8‘s new LP ‘Golden Island’. This song of the Swedish duo that is said to have influenced an indie scene in Indonesia is calm, almost meditative and actually has oriental nuances.
Adée - Wasted On You
This song is the result of a co-production of masters in their field. Swedish artist and producer Adée shares her new single ‘Wasted On You’. Amongst others, star producer JKey (worked with Beyoncé, Alicia Keys, Snoop Dog and Jay Z) and Jonathan Waxma (top writer in NYC) were involved in the production.
Jacob Bellens - Renegade
Watch a stroll around the streets turn into a playful couple dance - Jacob Bellens from Denmark shares a one take video for his song ‘Renegade’. Not only the pulsating bass line but also the two lovely dancers make you want to join them and show off your moves.
Lights & Motion - Bloom
‘Bloom’ is the title track of Lights & Motion‘s new EP. Christoffer Franzén, the man behind this cinematic post-rock project, said that he wanted this song to “sound like a flower in bloom, in that it is ever changing and evolving“. See for yourselves if and how the man from Gothenburg manages to accomplish this.
BRÍET - In Too Deep
Icelandic newcomer BRÍET stuns us with this sensual and artful video. In the clip for ‘In Too Deep,’ worlds of red and blue collide and the singer bathes in white and black liquids. Even though the video doesn’t stick to a certain plot, this intense visual language fascinates us from start to finish.
MATTIS - The Chain
Last year Danish “soul pop viking” MATTIS shared his debut single ‘Loverboy’ which was very positively received and collected more than half a million streams on Spotify. Now the Copenhagener is back with his second single ‘The Chain’, inspired by a failed relationship and written on a trip to LA.
Patrick Dorgan - Safe Here
This is a man who has experienced a steep take off: Patrick Dogan‘s 2015 debut single made it into the Danish charts right away. The Dane consequently upgraded all the venues of his planned release tour and still sold them all out. After quite some time, he now shares new material with us. ‘Safe Here’ is the name of his new single.
RABBII - Left For Dead
Johanna and Felix came from quite different social surroundings when they formed RABBII in Stockholm. However, one doesn’t notice that, with the bassy beats and fragile vocals perfectly matching. By now, they are a trio and just shared their latest single ‘Left For Dead’, a song about suffering from a relationship.
