BADLANDS’ new album Locus was released last Friday, and is a piece of true “crafts-woman-ship”. All eight songs share the same DNA and create the impression of a concept album. The surreal album artwork underlines the dream-like atmosphere. Songwriter, Producer and Sound Architect Catharina Jaunviksna makes nevertheless sure that each song has its own character. Ballady is the opener track and presents much of the melancholic synth-pop that BADLANDS uses throughout the album. The following tracks blend ambient soundscapes with nostalgic 80’s beats. They are sometimes moody and dark, like My Spine or Echo, or uplifting and make your head nod, like Caramisou. With its analogue synthesizers and stellar aesthetics the album takes you for a travel into a dream world.
