Every Friday we select the best new tracks and videos from all around Scandinavia and present our editorial picks in the New Music Weekly series. Check out these new releases coming from Asbjørn, Mio, Fieh, Linn Koch-Emmery, Schultz & Forever, Old S Resort & El Perro del Mar.
Asbjørn - Nothing2Lose
Danish singer, songwriter and producer Asbjørn is currently working on his upcomming new album ‘BOY PWR’ and today he presents us the first taste of it with his new single ‘Nothing2Lose’. The charismatic Berlin-based Scandinavian is definitely one of the most exciting “must-watch” talents of the year and gives pop music a completely new face. Pøp 3.0!
Mio - All About It
After releasing the debut single ‘Find It’ a few months ago Finnish producer and artist Mio (aka Mia Kemppainen) unveils her new single ‘All About It’ today - a production collaboration between Mio and London based producer and multi-instrumentalist Andrew McDonnell (Andrew’s work has featured on material by Scott Walker, Petite Noir, Crystal Fighters).
Fieh - 25
Fieh is a Norwegian soul-pop collective led by 22-year-old Sofie Tollefsbøl, whos already a rising star in the Norwegian jazz pop scene. After releasing their debut track ‘Glu’ back in October last year they have now released single number two: ’25’.
Linn Koch-Emmery - Wires
We already fell for the lovely Swede Linn Koch-Emmery back in September last year - all courtesy of her shoegazey and utterly addictive single ‘Under the Sun‘. Now it looks like we might have a new favorite: ‘Wires’, which has just been released today, sounds more heartfelt and vulnerable, but it still has that smokey and cool rock’n’roll feel to it. Long story short: We love it!
Schultz & Forever - Alone
Schultz & Forever continues to tease the public with snippets from the upcoming debut album ‘Gran Guignol’: new single ‘Alone,’ despite what the title might suggest, is not a unrequited love song of a loner, but rather a cheeky, synth-dominated hymn of person who is sick and tired of the world and just wants, for god’s sake, to be left alone.
Old S Resort - Now It’s Over
We don’t know much about Old S Resort, but we do know that he hails from Oslo, Norway and has recently dropped this beautiful track called ‘Now It’s Over.’ It is an indie-pop-psychedelia kind of thing, reminiscent of Tame Impala and Beach Fossils. Pretty good soundtrack to daze off to and dream a little bit.
El Perro del Mar - We Are History EP
Intriguing and prolific Swedish artist with a very non-Swedish moniker, El Perro del Mar aka Sarah Assbring drops a six-song EP titled ‘We Are History’ today. Intense, sophisticated, dark, and cold - this is a different kind of Scandinavian alt pop altogether. Assbring takes her mastery of melancholy even further and manages to make a socially relevant, sleek, and mesmerizing record out of it.
