My Question To is a Q&A on our Facebook page with different Scandinavian artists and this time you had the chance to ask the Danish passionate artist Asbjørn your personal questions.
Asbjørn: HEY GUYS! omg you’ve been doing some serious prep here. whazzup, everybody good?
Thanks for chilling with me, hope you had a blast - I did. Thanks for your wonderful questions, you are clearly both intelligent, funny and brave human beings. MUCH <3 TO YOU. xx Asbjørn
1. What is the best and the worst thing about Berlin?
I love love love the sunflowers at Paul-Lincke-Ufer, those are my spiritual plant siblings, we kinda follow the same emotional pattern. I love the open minds of Berlin and the freedom that brings. The worst thing would be that I feel like I should be partying more but I am too much of a grandpa when I am not on tour.
2. Do you have planned to visit Latin America? I mean, real plans. I know that maybe not in a near future, but I would really like to know if there is a plan or I will have to save money and go to Europe to watch you sing!
Uuhuh I get such an adventure lust! It’s always a big investment to expand to new territories and since I am just a little diy guy in this huge industry, we have to take it step by step. If you know of any festivals, venues or events, you can always connect us and the Asbjørn team will do our best to make it happen <3
3. What is your best pick-up line?
“wanna dance?” and then totally freak him out on the floor.
4. First of all, thank you for making such marvelous music! You’re probably tired of discussing “The Love You Have In You”, but that song and video resonated with me not only as a queer artist, but also as a transgender person who’s consistently confronted with the latent transphobia of potential partners. Have your creative explorations of both sexuality and identity led you to a more nuanced approach to these subjects in your personal life (or perhaps it’s been the other way around for you)?
I never get tired of discussing these issues, especially when people like yourself tell me a part of your own story. Thank you for that first of all. Ok, this is a big one.. wait a sek. It’s a difficult distinction between our political/social beliefs and personal/sexual chemistry. Basic human values and beliefs is something conscious and we have to inspire each other with openness and energy, exactly like you do - to me that’s not up for discussion. But when talking human chemistry it’s way more difficult, because we can not control that at all. It comes down to smells, endorphins, maybe star signs, the tide and pff you know… But I’ve always been a fan of confrontation. If I ever feel a weird or aggressive vibe from someone I meet, I have to vocalize it, because most people are basically just afraid because they don’t have enough knowledge about my lifestyle, beliefs and values. and in best case both them and you realize that the prejudice mostly is not the right assumption. It might get you in trouble sometimes (I’ve been running through the streets with some very big dudes after me because the confrontation didn’t work as intended haha). But standing up for yourself is always best in the long run I think, no matter the immediate consequence. It builds your character and tells your system that you really ARE equal and right, the way you are. Fuuck it’s complicated, I hope some of it makes sense to you!
5. Hi, I’m Team Asbjørn Brazil. Can I make a set of 5 questions to you? Answer yes or no.
1 - Do you follow the work of Troye Sivan? Would you like a duet with him?
Yes, i think he is awesome
2 - Want to expand your work, taking out of Europe?
Sooo much yes. Be patient, it will happen!
3 - I would like to work with renowned producers of pop music? (Max Martin, Dr. Luke, Will.i.am)
Yes and no. I have listened to their songs and productions for most of my life - mostly when I work with these hit pop producers I feel a bit dead inside, but I mean - max martin seems like a great guy and I am such a fan of him so of course.
4 - Are you single?
Yep
The 5th question I ask that responds normally.
5 - What are your current inspirations?
My housemates are my daily inspiration, our whole life together. Apart from that I am crazy about bonzai, KIll J and Ida Wenøe.
6. Do you have any pets? And what’s your favorite ugly mug look like?
My parents have a wonderful little dog called tikla.
7. How do you cheer yourself up when you’re feeling down? Love you, by the way!
Watch something ridiculous and spoon with a good friend. <3 <3 <3
8. Were you nervous the first time you performed?
I always am. Actually love the feeling. Kinda like being in love.
9. Do you plan to tour USA, especially Miami? check out iiipoints.com. they host a music festival in Miami every year. It would be great to see you perform live.
Thanks for the tip, fauzhy! (cool name). The big US is a chapter I look so much forward to - no immediate plans but it’s always on the table in the Asbjørn team and I promise you it will happen!
10. How do you deal with a broken heart (besides writing songs & making music)?
Haha! well…. that lyric backfired huh? It’s such a special state to be in right? It’s been a while since I’ve experienced the real deal though. I try to embrace the extremes heartbreak brings. This end of the world feeling and huge monster in your tummy that makes you bawl and bawl, but also suddenly you feel so liberated and ridiculous because you see yourself from the outside for a moment, realize that it’s all just chemistry and really quite explainable.
11. The best ways to stay inspired to create art/music, in your opinion? And, do you have any specific life-goal with your music?
Hmm good question. To me it’s about living as much as possible and putting yourself on the line. When you expose yourself, give a part of yourself to people, you see a reflection of yourself that might change everything. That’s also the scary part. But I think it’s nescessary. Otherwise your art doesn’t move and neither do you and that would be so sad. I am not super long term minded in general. I hate planning but love dreaming. So yeah, a lot of uncertain dreams but whatever happens is good.
