Documentaries are the best aren’t they?! Just a constant source of information. Jersey Shore is my fav! But each to their own. Maybe you’re into ones that are nearly 10 years old and feature Finnish singers? In which case, you’re in luck.
Islaja is the artist name of Finnish musician Merja Kokkonen, her latest psychedelic track Siren Call comes from her upcoming album S U U, which is her 6th in total. Merje’s been recording since 2004 and even had her own documentary made about her (pretty certain she didn’t do it herself). If you’ve got 20 minutes to spare, watch the great documentary below (song first though yeah!). It features an endearing young Merje before she moves to Helsinki. At the time she was singing in Finnish and mentions in the film that “Finnish is my mother language and if I would sing in English, it would feel like to please someone“, which is nicely put and a perfect argument for anyone singing in their native language. Although she’s now singing in English….yeah but, but, but, wait! It feels natural, not forced or for the sake of someone else:
