During the last year, the Swedish indie label Ikaros has been working on a project called ‘Ikaros Rep’. The purpose of this great project is to widen the space and encourage other then men to take greater part in the production. The project resulted in an album and a documentary where Ikaros aims to to expand the association of who’s a music producer today and who can be one tomorrow.
Ikaros explains their toughts behind the project: “We felt an urge to not only raise a discussion around inequality, but we also wanted to produce something showcasing why it is important to bring in other perspectives in the creative sphere. As in any process, music production and the experience it gives is enriched by a more diverse source”
The album ‘Ikaros Rep’ includes several norm breaking producers and artists such as Katharina Nuttall, Ji Nilsson ,Hanna Järver and RABBII, interpreting Swedish songs and then talking about their creation process in the documentary.
An extension of the project is an collaboration with the Art Production Agency Young Art, where seven female artists have made visual interpretations of the cover. The seven art pieces are used as artwork for the album and is also exhibited on NAU Gallery i Stockholm.
