Head a little north of Gothenburg and you’ll find Mjörn, a small island wedged in-between its two bigger island siblings, Tjörn and Orust. Look closer at Mjörn and you’ll unearth a little place called Timmerdalen. Peer closer still and you’ll discover hidden amongst the gnarled-windswept pines and cliffs a small wooden house. During the summer of 2014 This Is Head decided it was time to record their third album. They took all their recording equipment, all their instruments and headed… guess where?… to that cozy wooden house in Timmerdalen. They wrote, recorded, rewrote, played and recorded some more, early till late, through warm afternoons into cool summer nights. For them, they say, this record is a document of an intense week of abundant creativity mixed with writer’s block. A week of tired ears on stubborn heads and ultimately the crystallisation of their ideas.
You can check out their album on our AOTW Spotify Playlist. Also, don’t forget to step by our nordic_by_nature instagram to see what This Is Head is up to as they’re taking over our Instagram. As usual, we have asked our Artist of the Week five groovy questions and here are their five groovy answers:
What are the images on the EP cover meant to evoke?
The colors on the album cover are colors that works well with the house and the enviroment at Mjörn, where we recorded the album. It also shows that the album are pieces in different sizes that are put together.
What music were you all listening to at the time you recorded the record?
We didn´t listen that much to music during the recording process. During our recording session at Mjörn we listened to the sound of the wind in the trees, to the sound of the ocean and of course the music we recorded. We got inspired from the archipelago, the free summer spirit and the sun.
What’s next for the band? Do you currently have more material in the can slated for a future release?
If you could give your child/ren, that you will never meet, 3 tips, black on white and nothing else, what would them 3 be?
What question would you like to ask the next weeks artist of the week?
