Last summer, Swedish outfit jj released its third studio album, V. Now, almost a year later, the experimental pop group is set to return with a new five-track EP entitled ‘Death‘ via Gothenburg label Sincerely Yours. jj’s synth tones are calming and pillowy on ‘Death’. The piano-tinkling ‘Anything’ in particular is a sweet and soft lullaby-like song, while “Pills” mixes folksy acoustic guitar with auto tune croons and enveloping synth orchestrations. Still, despite the soothing sonic textures, the overall effect is a little unsettling, with the slo-mo faux-techno keyboards of “Fuck It” standing out as particularly dark and mysterious.
